MEMORY CARE

Congregational Home’s Memory Care can be provided in our Skilled Nursing Home and both Assisted Living Programs (RCAC & CBRF)

PROGRAMMING & APPROACHES:  Whether in our Skilled Nursing Home or Assisted Living, our Memory Care consists of special programming & approaches designed to meet the unique needs of those with various forms of dementia.  Our activities provide structure, mental stimulation, socialization and physical exercise. Our goal is to promote maintenance of abilities, a sense of well-being, belonging & accomplishment and to alleviate the anxiety that comes with memory loss.

SAFETY:  Resident safety is our priority.  Our exit doors are secured by passcodes. We also utilize a Wander Guard System that includes wrist or ankle bracelets worn by residents who have a propensity to wander; these bracelets alert staff if a resident is approaching an exit door.

TRAINING:  Congregational Home’s staff training curriculum comes from the Alzheimer’s Association & includes ongoing training in Basic, Specialty & Advanced Dementia Care.  Our Dementia Specialist has received additional training through a special dementia training program developed by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services & University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.

Congregational Home is also proud to be an approved training site for the Virtual Dementia Tour®. The VDT was designed by Second Wind Dreams® and approved by the state & federal government to be a training tool for healthcare providers. The VDT uses sensory tools that impair staff’s ability to perform daily tasks, thus simulating what dementia residents may struggle with on a daily basis.  This experience helps staff better understand dementia residents & expands caregiver empathy, which ultimately improves care.
